Abstract
550,592. Preheating air supply to cupolas &c. MEEHANITE METAL CORPORATION. July 14, 1941, No. 8901. Convention date, Sept. 30, 1940. [Class 51 (ii)] The air supply to metallurgical furnaces is preheated by the provision, in a wind box around the body of the furnace, of radial conducting plates extending through the wall of the furnace and forming passages through which the air passes to the tuyeres. As shown, the plates 36, which are made of copper, have flanged inner ends 37 lying near the inner surface of the brickwork and the air is led into the wind box 22 through a pipe 23 passing between the plates to the tuyeres 30 ... 35. In other forms the plates have corrugated outer ends or are fitted with fins which may be flat or curved concentrically with the wall. Specifications 532,887 and 550,526 are referred to.
