Abstract
546,039. Open hearth furnaces. OPEN HEARTH COMBUSTION CO. Jan. 22, 1941, No. 877. Convention date, March 9, 1940. [Class 51 (ii)] Walls.-One or more of the side walls of an open hearth furnace above the level of the charge of metal on the hearth or the door sills extends upwardly and outwardly for a portion of its height as shown at 32, Fig. 1, and then vertically at 34 to the roof 29. The wall is of uniform thickness and has a lining 35 of uniform thickness throughout at least the lower inclined portion of the wall. The inclined portion forms at least 40 per cent and not more than 80 per cent of the height of the wall and the height of the inclined portion is at a maximum at the central portion of the furnace and decreases gradually towards the ends thereof.
