Abstract
549,526. Toothed gearing. TURNER TANNING MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and SCHETTLER, G. A. May 21, 1941, No. 6520. [Classes 80 (i) and 80 (ii)] Relates particularly to toothed gearing for connecting a pair of co-operating rollers one of which drives the other, said rollers being adapted to be separated at the end of a working stroke and brought into gear again, e.g. in the treatment of hide, leather &c. To ensure smooth engagement, each of the gears 3, 5 has pointed or knife-like outer edges 3b, 5b, which are curved and inclined to the axes of the shafts 1, 2, in fact it is preferred to adopt a spiral form. To prevent shock on engagement, one or both of the gears has a resilient connection with its shaft. The gear 5 is freely mounted on a sleeve 6, Fig. 3, keyed to the shaft 2 and has projections 10 interspersed in the manner of a dog clutch with projections 9 on a flange of the sleeve. The flange has lugs 11, 12 between which is a lug 13 on the gear 5. Between the lugs 11, 13 is a spring 14 supported by a pin 15. When the gears are disengaged, the spring forces the lug against a stop 16.
