Abstract

549,428. Pocket knives. RODGERS & SONS, Ltd., J., and PALMER, D. A. Oct. 11, 1941. No. 13124. [Class 30] The pivoted blade 10 of a pocket knife is locked by a spring-pressed bolt 12 mounted in one scale 8 or bolster 7 and engaging an aperture in the blade tang, the bolt being released by pressure transmitted through an intermediate member, such as a ball, carried in the aperture and engaged by a releasing pin 17 mounted in the other scale or bolster. A second ball may be provided on the other side of the pivot 11 to lock the blade both when open and closed, and the balls 24, 26 may seat in annular grooves in one or both of the scales. The pivot 11 may carry a bush 23 somewhat longer than the thickness of the tang. The pin 17 may have a groove engaged by a forked plate 20 secured to the bolster, or the pin may have an inner head to retain it in the bolster, a hollow rivet forming the outer head. A spring 27 secured to the back 9 tends to open the blade when it is released.
