Abstract

801,506. Writing instruments combined with pocket knives. IMPERIAL KNIFE CO., Inc. Jan. 28, 1957 [Nov. 1, 1956], No. 3009/57. Class 146(3) [Also in Group XIV] The lining plates of a pocket knife are recessed to accommodate a ball point pen and to form a pair of lugs at each end of the plates, a t a n g detachably mounted on the pen be- 'ing pivoted between one pair of the lugs and the ball point of the pen, when in folded position, being protected between the second pair of the lugs. As shown, a back spring 16 riveted to lining plates 12,14 of a knife frame holds a pivoted knife blade 36 in open and closed position. The lining plates and scales 26 are recessed at 56 to accommodate a ball point pen 54, a pen tang 76 being pivotally mounted between the lining plates on a rivet 80 and having a straight side 82 and a shoulder 84 abutting the side and end of the back spring to maintain the pen in the position of use. The pen comprises a hollow metal tube 58 screw-threaded on a stem 70 and fitting on a shoulder 64 of a conical plug 62 which is bored to receive a cartridge 66 having a writing tip 68.
