[Class 146 (ii)] [See also Group XVIII] In a combined paperknife and letter balance of the type comprising a pivot blade and a handle, the latter carries a claw or grip to which may be suspended a letter or similar small object, and a movable cursor independent of the claw or pivot blade or integral with the pivot blade, and permitting the conditions of equilibrium of the paperknife on its pivot blade to be modified. A cursor 2 carrying a pivot blade 4 slides on the paperknife 1 which is provided with a claw or clip 3 for a letter or similar small object. A standard mark 6 is provided on the cursor, and a scale 5 is marked on the paperknife; if desired, the mark 6 may be on the paperknife, and the scale 5 on the cursor. When the mark 6 is opposite a division on the scale 5, a weight suspended by the claw 3 equivalent to that division on the scale will just balance the paperknife about the pivot 4. The pivot 4 may be fixed and integral with the paperknife, and the cursor then acts as a movable weight.
