Abstract

1280756 Pocket knives E J GERLING 24 Nov 1970 [9 Oct 1970] 55797/70 Heading B4B A pocket-knife comprises a blade 2 arranged to be folded into a handle 1 which is bent from sheet material to form two sides, a portion of the sheet material providing a back spring which is engageable with the knife blade to hold it in a fully folded or unfolded position. Two slots 3, Fig. 1, are formed in a flat blank of, e.g. sheet steel, prior to the blank being bent into a U- shape, Fig. 3, a rivet 8 passing through the handle and blade to form a pivot; a second rivet 8 secures a hoop 7. In a modification, a further pair of slots 3 may be formed at the opposite end of the handle Fig. 5 (not shown) so as to provide a further spring for a second blade. The sides of the handle may be covered with scales (6), Fig. 6 (not shown). The slots may cut on an angle in order to provive a stiffer spring Fig. 7 (not shown).
