[Class 61 (i).] Hammer, hatchet, &c. heads are secured to their shafts by means of a rod a extending through a bore l in the shaft k and provided at the front end with a plate c having curved springy tongues p, q bearing on the tool head and side wings n embracing the tool head, the rear end of the rod being threaded to take a washer e and nut d housed in a recess m in the end of the shaft. The springy tongues p, q may be omitted and a spring washer provided under the nut d.
