548,536. Synthetic resin abrasive compositions. SMIT & SONS, Inc., J. K., and KUZMICK, P. L. April 10, 1941, No. 4775. [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group V] Abrasive tools are made by moulding a mixture of particles of more than one metal, e.g. powdered copper, tin, iron, nickel, aluminium or lead with abrasive granules, e.g. diamond or boron carbide, and artificial resin, e.g. phenol-formaldehyde, or plastic rubber, and curing at a temperature, e.g. 330‹F., below the melting point of any of the metals present. The pressure of moulding may be 1,000 to 4,000 pounds per sq. inch, and the porosity may be controlled. The weight of metal exceeds the abrasive. Examples specify copper and tin of 200 mesh and diamond of 240 to 300 mesh.
