Abstract

548,048. Bridges. BUTTERLEY CO., Ltd., and WALTERS, C. Feb. 21, 1941, Nos. 2355 and 5078. [Classes 20 (i) and 20 (ii)] A bridge is formed of standardized hollow boxshaped members a joined together at their ends by drum or bobbin shaped members formed of spaced discs c separated by cross plates c<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 7, or by a tubular member welded to the discs. The discs are apertured to receive the bolts for the members and also the bolts for securing slotted plates d which fit over the transverse supports f which may be of I-section metal or of box section similar to the members a. Stiffening members e are associated with the plates d and the apertures through these plates may be remtorced by washers c<SP>4</SP> welded to the plates. The box shaped members are slotted at two sides at the ends to receive a tube or boss b, while the other two sides are bent around to meet at a<SP>1</SP> and are welded together. The decking is formed of chequered plates i with downturned edges all round and with recessed ends to rest on the supports a or f.
