Abstract
241,020. Pollard, H. J., and Bristol Aeroplane Co., Ltd. Oct. 25, 1924. Struts and strut connections.-A fairing 18, which, according to the Provisional Specification, may be in two parts, is attached to a strut by means of flanges on the strut which engage grooves on the fairing and has flanged stiffeners, Fig. 5, riveted to it at intervals. It is additionally secured by a small rivet 24, Fig. 4, at each end. In the strut shown, the forward portion is in two parts 10, 11 and the flanges are provided on the perforated web 16. Near the ends, the web 16 is cut away only the flanges 15 being retained, and is replaced by a plate 27, a reinforcing plate 25 and end plate 26 being provided. The plates 26, 27, are extended' and riveted to flanges on a jointing member 28. In a modification, the forward part of the strut is in one piece and itself provides the flanges. Near the ends, the web is completely cut away. Reinforcing plates are provided as shown, but the extensions are welded to jointing pins.
