Abstract
547,264. Wheels for vehicles. SMITH, R. W. April 19, 1941, No. 5083. [Class 144 (i)] Strakes 8 are adjustably and removably secured to the steel wheels of tractors or the like by angle brackets 4 bolted to the rim 1 and having flanges, flange 7 being provided for securing the strake by means of a bolt or bolts 9 passing through one of a series of holes 13 in the strake and a curved flange 5 to which a tread 6 of rubber or the like may be secured. An additional angle bracket 10 with a lug 11 by which it may be bolted to the wheel rim may be provided to give additional support. In a modification the strakes 8 may be mounted by a pair of brackets 14, 15, Fig. 6 which may be used with or without a tread-supporting flange. The strakes can therefore be adjusted for protrusion from the wheel, withdrawn within the perimeter or removed.
