Abstract

547,246. Catalysts; alumina. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. July 26, 1940, No. 12203. Convention date, Sept. 1, 1939. [Classes 1 (i) and 1 (iii)] Catalysts for reforming hydrocarbons are obtained by incorporating an active metal oxide with a peptized alumina gel which has been obtained by precipitating aluminium hydroxide in a slightly alkaline solution, washing it free of negative ions, mixing it with a dilute solution of an organic and drying and heating to about 1000‹F. Formic, acetic, and chloracetic acids are suitable. The metallic oxide may be coprecipitated with the alumina or mixed with the gel before or after drying. Suitable metals are chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, nickel, and vanadium.
