Abstract

1324534 Hydrogenation catalysts ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 6 Oct 1970 [28 Oct 1969] 47458/70 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] Catalysts for use in the hydrogenation of hydrocarbon oils (see Division C1) are made by contacting a transition metal (e.g. Fe, Co or Ni) impregnated support with an organo metallic compound. Catalysts are made by (a) impregnating alumina with a solution of nickel acetylacetonate in toluene, drying the impregnated alumina and contacting it with a solution of triisobutyl aluminium in n-heptane, (b) impregnating alumina with an aqueous solution of ferric chloride, drying the impregnated alumina and contacting it with a solution of aluminium triethyl, (c) contacting a commercial cobalt molybdena-on-alumina catalyst with a solution of aluminium triethyl, and (d) impregnating alumina with a solution of platinum chloride and hydrochloric acid, drying the impregnated alumina and contacting it with a solution of aluminium. triethyl in heptane; the catalysts (a), (b), (c) and (d) are dried and heated in hydrogen at 600‹F.
