Abstract
547,073. Scaffold clamps. MARSHALL, A. C. March 8, 1941, No. 3176. [Class 20 (ii)] A scaffold clamp of the kind comprising a U-shaped member 1 embracing one scaffold member 2 and a pivoted clamping jaw 5 carried by the arms of the U- shaped member, has the jaw pivoted in recesses of the arms which are of reduced width and provided with extensions 13a, 14, one of which 14 acts as a nut for a screw 15 which bears against the scaffold member 2 and clamps the members 2 and 2a together at right-angles. One pivot 6 is provided with a head 8 while the other pivot 7 also provided with a head 9 passes through a slotted plate 11 with a curved end, the arrangement being such that the jaw can be swung about the slotted plate so as not to impede the positioning of the scaffold members, while the heads 8 and 9 prevent spread of the arms of the U- shaped member during clamping. In a modification, Fig. 7, a hinged seating member 16 is interposed between the scaffold members and operated by a screw 22 to clamp the first scaffold member to the U-shaped member, and an independent hinged member extends between the arms 4 of the U-shaped member to prevent spread.
