[Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XXXVI] In a time-delay relay arrangement for use with overload, directional or earth leakage protection, the relay e which is in circuit with a neon lamp c or like device operates only after a condenser d has been charged or discharged through a variable resistance h, the particular value of which is determined by the strength of the operating current j. In the arrangement shown flow of current j attracts a core i and immerses a plunger h of resistance material a variable amount in mercury g, thereby completing a circuit between DC terminals a, b which charges the condenser d. After the given time limit, the voltage of the condenser is sufficient for current to flow through the neon lamp c and operate the relay e.
