Abstract

503,843. Mercury switches. CIANCHI, A. Oct. 13, 1937, No. 27899. [Class 38 (v)] A mercury switch comprises a vessel 1 com. municating by means of a small hole 2 with a vessel 3 Depression of a plunger 10 either by means of a coil 12 or a moving magnet causes mercury to flow slowly through hole 2 and complete a circuit between an electrode 7 and electrodes 8 in a side limb 9, an air hole 13 being provided in the vessel 1. On de-energization of coil 12, mercury flows back slowly to give a retarded break. There may be more than one side limb 9 which may be diametrically opposite or in a direction at right-angles. The time delay may be varied by tilting the switch. The hole 2 may be made in the manner described in Specification 497,323. Specification 6370/08, [Class 38], also is referred to.
