Abstract
546,205. Attenuating networks. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., BARNARD, R. M., JARVIS, F. L. J., WICKS, G. R., and KRAM, W. Dec. 31, 1940, No. 18253. [Class 40 (iii)] A variable attenuator comprises a series of T- networks arranged radially in a fixed drum 1 and connected at their lower ends to a short circular bus-bar 19. Each network is normally connected to its neighbour by a plunger 26 and the chain is broken at the selected point by the release of a plunger as at 29 by a cam ring secured to a plate 2 rotated by the selecting handle. Connection of the output conductor to the selected point in the chain is effected by a collector arm terminating at each end in spring-loaded plungers 31, 32, carried by the plate 2. The networks and their connections are screened individually by partition members 12, 13 and collectively by a plate 34 and drum 1. Unused contact studs are shielded by the plate 2. Definite selecting positions are provided for by balls 37 cooperating with recesses 39 in the drum 1 to which the plate is held by a spring. Specifications 514,454 and 520,289 are referred to.
