[Class 38 (v)] A switch contact is mounted in its holder or carrier by means of rubber that is bonded to the contact and holder. Instead of being bonded directly to the contact the rubber may be bonded to a sleeve or other metal part to which the contact is connected. Fig. 4 shows switch contacts 27 bonded to rubber 22 which is bonded to metal bushes 23 secured in a rigid framework 33, 34 carried by an arm 35. Flexible conductors 36 connect the contacts to the main conductors. The area of the rubber bond on the contacts 27 is made approximately equal to the area of the bond on the bushes 23. In a modification each contact is rubber bonded to flat carrier plates placed on each side of the contact. Fig. 8 shows a construction in which a U - shaped contact 41 is supported by rubber 23 bonded to a movable conducting bar 35 which is connected to the contact by flexible conductors 43. Fig. 9 shows a further modification in which contacts 20 are bonded by rubber 22 to a carrier arm 35 and engage a channel-shaped contact 32a. The contact 32a may be in the form of a tube into and out of which the contacts are moved by longitudinal movement of the arm 35. In another modification a number of contacts having a cam-like contour are provided with central openings and are mounted on an axle carried by a swinging arm. The opening in each contact is provided with a metal bush secured in place by bonded rubber. Fig. 12 shows a further modification in which a swinging carrier arm 35 is provided with a cylindrical enlargement 52 to which is-bonded a rubber bush 51 which is also bonded to the contact 44.
