Abstract

545,239. Refractories. JENNINGS, H. W. K. (Titanium Alloy Manufacturing Co.).. June 17, 1941, No. 7660. [Class 22] A refractory is prepared by firing a mixture of zircon with small proportions of an alkali or alkaline earth fluosilicate and phosphoric acid or zirconium dioxide. Organic matter such as coke, cork or sawdust which is burnt out during the firing may be added to render the product porous. The zircon is ground to pass a 200 and preferably a 325 mesh sieve and may be mixed with grains which pass a 35 but not a 120 mesh sieve. The zircon should contain only small proportions of titanium dioxide and ferric oxide and materials containing zircon such as a mixture of zircon and mullite may be used.
