Abstract
544,796. Cords. CLARK THREAD CO. Feb. 22, 1941, No. 2423. Convention date, March 1, 1940. [Class 120 (iii)] [Also in Groups IV and XXV] A cord of cotton, linen, jute, ramie, &c. for use as a tyre cord is wetted, stretched, compressed and impregnated with latex or other adhesive matter. The cord is saturated with water or other wetting agent in a tank 2, is stretched over conical rollers 4, 5, and is passed through a heated die 6, rollers 11 being provided for pulling the cord. The stretching rollers 4, 5 need, therefore, not be positively driven. The temperature of the die 6 may be about 350‹F. Before and after passing through the impregnating bath 14, the cord may be maintained in a relaxed tension by devices 13, 18. A second heated die 6<SP>1</SP> may be provided, together with a second set of pulling rollers 19, 20, and the cord is finally wound upon a beam or spool 21. The dies 6, 6<SP>1</SP> may be replaced by rollers.
