544,267. Making shackles. NORTH BRITISH ELECTRIC WELDING CO., Ltd., and GLOVER, T. S. Feb. 6, 1941, No. 1572. Drawings to Specifications. [Class 83 (ii)] Shackles are made from a bow member and a pair of eye members, the bow member being formed by bending and/or forging a steel bar to N-shape and the eye members being formed by drop stamping or forging and each having a shank projection, the shank projections being welded to the ends of the bow member by automatic resistance welding or by electric arc welding. When resistance flash welding is used flashing allowances are provided at the uniting faces. When electric arc welding is used the shanks and the ends of the bow member are chamfered to afford gaps for the reception of weld metal.
