[Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Groups XI and XXXVIII] A light buoy for use at Seadromes &c. comprises a float or buoy 10, preferably of the pneumatic type, supporting a detachable housing 16 containing a battery assembly 13 and a power pack assembly 14 and carrying on a tubular standard 61 a light assembly 15 consisting of a gaseous discharge lamp 53 surrounded by a globe 56. The battery assembly 13 comprises battery units 24 and spacers 25 clamped together in a frame consisting of bottom and top plates 26, 27, rods 28 fitted with wing nuts 30, and a lifting strap 33. This assembly is inserted in the lower part 17 of the housing 16 and rotated so as to be held in position by inwardlly projecting ears on a flange 22. The power pack assembly 14 comprises a transformer 39, an inverter 41, and a push switch 44 mounted on a plate 42 which is secured to lugs 43 on the upper part 18 of the housing 16. The lower and upper parts 17, 18 of the housing 16 are secured together at a watertight joint 19 by screws 23 and are retained by a spring-biased latch 71 within a cage 65 carried by the buoy. The buoy is anchored by a chain attached to a ring 72 on the cage 65. Fig. 5 shows the preferred electrical circuit in which the switch 44 is arranged in the circuit of a magnet operating vibrating reed members 74, 75 carrying contacts 77 which move in relation to stationary contacts 78 to change the direction of the primary current through the transformer 39.
