Abstract
538,088. Electric battery lamps in association with life-buoys. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and RICHARDS, S. W. Dec. 15, 1939, No. 32305. [Class 39 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] An illuminated float for attachment to a life-belt, buoy or raft lights up only when the float is inverted on assuming its floating position. The lamp 13 is mounted in the watertight upper chamber with a glass cover and is supplied through a gravity switch 35, 37 from batteries in the main chamber. An intermediate float chamber 39 ensures that the float rides lamp upwards. Normally the device is stored upsidedown in which position the wedge - shaped contactmember 37, which is internally threaded, slides down the quick-pitch thread of the spindle 23. When, however, the float is upright the contact-member slides into contacting engagement with the contacts 35 which are connected with the central contact of the battery, the circuit of which is now complete through the contact-member 37 and the spindle 23 to the central contact of the lamp.
