[Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv).] Apparatus for operating a small lighting- set and regenerating dry batteries, particularly pocket batteries for cycle lamps, comprises a transformer 3 and rectifier 4 built into a casing 1 carrying a lamp socket 10 and a three-position switch 16 operated by pushbuttons 28. In the position a of the switch, Fig. 6, the lamp is short-circuited, and a pair of batteries may be charged in series from the transformer and rectifier. In the position b the lamp is connected in series with a single battery and serves as a charging resistance and polarity indicator, while in the position c the rectifier is cut out of the circuit, and the lamp is supplied with lowvoltage alternating current from the transformer. The outer core sheet 6 of the transformer is bent at the edges and engages pips 7 on the base of the casing 1 and a nut 24 mounted on the cover-plate 25, in order to hold the transformer and rectifier in position in the casing. The switch member 16 is provided with holes 18, into which a stationary locking projection 19 can snap, in order to hold the switch member in any one of its three positions. In its end positions, the switch member engages one or other of a pair of contact springs 11, 12, one of which forms the bottom contact of the lamp socket, while the other is connected to one terminal of the rectifier.
