Abstract
542,909. Hydraulic controls. PRATT, J. H., MANLEY, G. E., and GIRLING, A. H. G. July 26, 1940, No, 12172. [Class 69 (ii)] In control mechanism wherein an actuating member is operated from a control member through hydraulic agency, a leakage passage is interposed between a liquid reservoir and a part of the hydraulic system which is under pressure when the control mechanism is in use, the passage having negligible capacity during an operation but permitting liquid to pass during the long periods of rest. The leakage passage may be constituted by the space between an unpacked piston and its cylinder. Alternatively, the reservoir 8 and the parts 7, 9 subject to pressure are connected by bores 5b, 5c in the packed pistons 5, the bores 5b being almost filled by rods 16 of aluminium &c. having a higher co-efficient of expansion than the pistons ; the liquid leak around the rods thus diminishes in area as the viscosity diminishes ; the rods may be grooved or screw-threaded and are pressed by springs against washers abutting on filter pads 19. Leak spaces may alternatively be constituted by the spaces between the tops and bottoms of a screw and its nut. U.S.A. Specification 1,909,768 is referred to.
