Abstract
541,636. Closures for containers. THORNTON, A. A. (Gutmann & Co.. F.). Jan. 3, 1941, No. 119. [Class 125 (iii)] A bottle 10 or similar container has a closure formed by a metal shell 16 with a screw - threaded skirt 17. The shell or cap contains a liner disc 19 of absorbent material, and the central part of this is covered by a disc 20 of liquid repellent and acid resistant material ; it may be, for instance, a thin layer of chlorinated rubber 20 having a thin paper backing 21 secured by a suitable adhesive to the liner 19. It may also have a protective coating of paraffin 23. The container has a flat topped mouth and when the cap is screwed down for sealing, the disc 20 engages part of the lip to cover the whole of the mouth. The remaining part of the lip engages the absorbent ring formed by the absorbent liner 19 outside the disc 20. The closure is shown applied to a bottle, such as an ink bottle, with a partition 11 forming a well 12.
