540,655. Compressed air intensifiers ; casting metals. E.M.B. CO., Ltd., and CADBURY, G. N. Aug. 21, 1940, No. 13300. Addition to 534,282. [Class 8 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] Air under pressure is admitted by a pipe j to operate a ram a, b, the smaller end b of which is thus caused to compress a further portion of compressed air from the same source in a cylinder d. At a certain pressure the further compressed air lifts a valve x, against an adjustable spring, and passes through a pipe t to a die-casting or other machine. The supply of air to the ram part a and its exhaust to atmosphere are effected by valves e, f operated by a lever h which is connected by a rod w to a second lever operating valves p, q which alternatively connect the pipe t to the high pressure cylinder d or to atmosphere in synchronism with the valves e, f. During the first part of the compression stroke, air is admitted by a byepass 10 with choking, regulating and stop valves from the pipe j to the pipe t. Adjustable reducing and choke valves 8, 9 may be provided in the supply pipe i.
