Abstract
540,502. Oil bath air cleaners. ACSPHINX SPARKING PLUG CO., Ltd., and BROWNE, D. B. May 28, 1940, No. 9337. [Class 8 (ii)] An air cleaner comprises an oil container 4 enclosing a filter container 3 which holds filters 1, 2 of fibre, metal ribbon &c. a step or shelf 5 formed in the oil container co-operating with a baffle 7 attached to the filter container to give a shallow oil layer, the normal level of which is indicated by a platform 6 on the oil container; the baffle plate forms with the oil container a narrow annulus, dimples 9 formed in the baffle centralizing the baffle and the filter container. A tube 10 passing through the lower filter dips into the oil at its open lower end and communicates with the intermediate air space through holes 13 at its closed upper end, the suction through these holes lowering the oil level in the container 4. Air inlet windows 14 protected by a lip 15 are provided in the oil container. The filter container rests at its upper perimeter on that of the oil container, which is held removably on the cast metal outlet duct 18 by bolts 19.
