Abstract

539,418. Raising liquids. RATHBONE. R. D. V. Feb. 2, 1940, No. 2036. [Class 102 (ii)] Apparatus for raising liquids from a drainage sump or the like comprises an airtight chamber 4 into which liquid passes from a surrounding container 1 through one or more admission ports 5 with non-return valves 6, the liquid being forced through a discharge conduit 7, by gaseous or vapour pressure admitted to or created in the chamber. The liquid has free access into the container 1 through screening members 3 which prevent the entry of larger solids in suspension. The source of pressure may comprise a hand pump 9, or a chemical which is introduced into the chamber 4 to react with the liquid to create gas. The chamber 4 may be provided at the top with an automatic pressure-relief valve. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 3205/1900, 22942/1900, 27454/03, [all in Class 102] 305,142, [Class 102 (ii)], and U.S.A. Specification 1,827,091.
