Abstract

694,467. Gravity separation apparatus. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBERG - NURNBERG AKT.-GES. June 12, 1951 [July 22, 1950], No. 13942/51. Class 46 Water of condensation is separated from the sealing liquid of a piston-type gas holder by means including a bottom collecting cup 2, which serves for preliminary separation, and which is connected by separate ducts 6, 10 to two separate chambers 9, 29, the two ducts being provided at their outlet ends with siphon traps 5, 18 having adjustable inlets 4, 16 for the purpose of regulating the layering of the liquids in the bottom collecting cup. The duct 10 is screened by a cover 12 to prevent the formation of a vortex in the cup 2. Where a sealing liquid such as tar oil with a specific gravity higher than that of water is used, the oil is conveyed to the trap 18 which discharges into a collecting tank 29 containing a float 21 to control an oil pump connected with a suction pipe 22. The water passes through the trap 5 into the tank 9 from which it escapes through a pipe 24 while oil settling in this tank is transferred by a hand pump 26 to the tank 29. The traps are connected by a pipe 15 to keep them at the same pressure as the interior of the holder. The inlet 16 is normally 5 inillimetres lower than the .inlet 4.
