Abstract

538,591. Steering trailer vehicles. NORTH, O. D., HUGH, P. G., and SCAMMELL LORRIES, Ltd. Nov. 1, 1940, No. 29304/39. [Class 79 (v)] Steering gear for heavy trailers comprises a hand-operated transverse screw shaft 15 mounted in fixed bearings in the trailer frame (not shown) and engaged by a nut 16 the axial movements of which are transmitted to the drawbar 21 to steer the trailer. In order to allow for the arcuate movement of the drawbar the nut is formed with radial arms 17 connected by detachable pivot pins 22 to a coupling block 18 slidably and pivotally mounted in a sleeve 19 on a vertical bolt 20 secured to the drawbar. In order to disconnect the hand steering gear the pins 22 are removed.
