878,485. Articulated vehicles. MORE WEAR INDUSTRIES (RHODESIA) (PRIVATE) Ltd. July 19, 1960 [April 30, 1960], No. 25096/60. Classes 79(3) and 79(5). An articulated vehicle comprises a tractor 11 and a trailer 14 each having a pair of wheels, a coupling embodying a normallyvertical splined pin 18 rotatable by a hydraulic steering motor 22 and means 17 to provide for oscillatory movement of the pin 18 about a longitudinal axis. In the embodiment tractor 11 is formed by -femoving the front axle from a four-wheel tractor and the coupling comprises an upper portion 21 attached to gooseneck 16 of the trailer and housing bearings for the lower portion 20 which is extended as a yoke 32 for a pin 31 to provide a longitudinal hinge for travel over rough ground. A splined socket in lower portion 20 receives the splined end 19 of pin 18 which is rotated by hydraulic motor 22 on the gooseneck to steer the vehicle. The hydraulic motor is actuated by the tractor hydraulic system which is controlled from the steering wheel by rods 26 connected to hydraulic valve box 27. The coupling arrangement may be inverted.
