Abstract

537,977. Conveyers and elevators. REDLER A. Jan. 3, 1940, No. 189. (Class 78 (i)] In an unloading device for grain or the like, comprising an elevator 23 which carries upwards the grain &c. and extends downwards from the outer end of a conveyer trough or trunk 14 projecting laterally from a building 12 or other receiver and serving to transfer the grain from the elevator to the receiver, the elevator and the receiver are both of the "en masse " type, having a number of skeleton flights 40 secured to an endless tension member such as a chain 39 and drawn through a trunk or trough. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the trough 14 is secured to the building 12 by a pair of eyes 15, 16 allowingit to swing horizontally and vertically, and. the outer end is supported by a wire rope 17 passing over a pulley 19 to a winch 20. A tension member 21 running in the trough 14 is driven by a motor 24 and provided with skeleton flights 22 and the grain is discharged through a flexible pipe 13. The elevator 23 has a pair of legs 27, 28 straddling the trough 14 and supported by rollers 29, 30 running on flanges at the sides of the trough, and the grain lifted from a barge 11 is discharged through an opening 43 to the trough 14. In a modification, an L- shaped trunk has a horizontal and a vertical portion, both traversed by a single conveyer chain having skeleton flights and supported by a pair of eyes 15, 16 and a rope 17 as shown in Fig. 1. In another form, Fig. 4, the elevator 23 is pivoted at 54 to the conveyer trunk 55, into which it discharges through a pipe 57, and the elevator and conveyer can be raised to the folded position shown in chain lines. In a further form, Fig. 5, the elevator 45 is hinged at 61 to the conveyer 46 and each is divided longitudinally by a partition 50 and traversed by a single tension member 51 having skeleton flights. Specification 3227/06, [Class 78], is referred to. The provisional Specification states also that the tension members may be a bucket chain, and that two or more elevators may be supported by a single conveyer.
