Pulley-tackle hoists with guided skips and platforms. -In ash conveying and discharging plants and cupola charging plants, the ash receptacle or platform for carrying a receptacle is raised and lowered bv the continuous movement of an endless chain in the same direction. A pair of parallel chains 15 driven continuously in the same direction are connected by a cross member on which a sheave 31 is rotatably mounted. The hoisting rope 29 of a skip 25 is passed over pulleys 30 and below the sheave 31 to an anchorage 32. In a modification the hoisting rope is attached to a platform which moves in vertical guides.
