Abstract

Directing and adjustably supporting portable endless-belt conveyers with platform carriers; casings; guiding endless belts; driving-gear; carriers, attaching to belts; guards and shields to prevent falling off and spilling; auxiliary belts.-For discharging coal or other material into a vessel or other receptacle with minimum breakage, an endless band conveyer 25 with projecting plates 25a, is mounted. on a quayside structure 2, 3, the main conveyer section 8 being adjustable about a horizontal pivot 7 at its lower end, and the forward section 18 working in a closed shoot pivoted at 17 at the upper end of the main section, so that the forward section can be lowered to the depth at which delivery is desired. Material may be fed to the man conveyer by a hopper 55 or by an elevator raising the material from a sunken bunker. The apparatus is movable on rails 5 by means of a motor 6 and rack and pinion. gear controlled from the cabin 15. The conveyers are adjusted about their pivots by winch drums 14, 24 in the cabin 15 hauling on ropes 11, 21 connected to the conveyer sections by shackles 10, 20. The conveyer band 25 passes over guide rollers 29 - - 33 at the junction of the sections. Transverse plates 25a, and bars 34, Fig. 9, are secured to the band by bolts 25<b>. The bars 34 are provided with a screwed spindle at each end passing through the driving chains. Each chain comprises alternate single links 44<e>, Fig. 6, and double links 40, 41. The transverse bars 34 are connected to the double links and support rollers 42 which run on guides 43, Fig. 3. In each section of the conveyer, the travelling band forms the bottom of a trough with inclined sides as.at 8d, Fig. 3. In the forward section, the coal is held on the band by an auxiliary belt 44 driven by gearing 51, 52 from the main belt. The belt 44 is held against the transverse plates 25<a> by rollers 53 carried on spring supports 54. The belt 44 may be provided with ridges, bars, or push-plates.
