Abstract
723,651. Treating sewage. HARTLEY, C. J. Sept. 22, 1952. [Sept. 22, 1951] No. 22228/51. Class 111. [Also in Groups XXI and XXX] Sludge is scraped from a sludge-drying bed by a scoop 22 which encloses the bottom of a jib 18 forming the lower end of a bucket elevator 19a by which the sludge is lifted into a hopper 17 from which it falls onto a conveyer belt 14 one end of which overhangs one side of the bed. The sludge is discharged into a truck running on rails. The open end of the scoop 22 is wider than the elevator buckets. The elevator carriage 16 is traversed along rails 15 on a gantry 12 which itself is driven along rails 13 on either side of the bed. The jib 18 may be lifted about a pivot 23. A second elevator 19b may be provided for use when the gantry is moved in the opposite direction. A traverser carriage 32 on rails 33 across the end of a row of beds enables the gantry to be transferred from one bed to another. The scoop 22 may be pivoted to the lower end of the jib 18, which in that case is rigid with the carriage 16.
