Abstract

537,829. Gelatine. KODAK, Ltd. (Eastman Kodak Co.). Jan. 5, 1940, No. 286. [Class 121] Gelatine is freed from calcium by treating it with a neutral aqueous solution of an ammonium or alkali metal salt of an acid whose anion forms a calcium salt soluble in water above 0.1 grams per 100 grams water. Sulphates, formates, acetates, lactates, chlorates, chlorides, nitrates, metaborates. hypophosphites and thiosulphates are suitable. When the gelatine is to be used for photographic emulsions and particularly if sulphates are made use of it is unnecessary to wash the neutral salt from the gelatine.
