Abstract

1397194 Regeneration of silver bleach baths AGFA-GEVAERT AG 2 March 1973 [2 March 1972] 10165/73 Heading G2C A process for regenerating silver bleach baths in which the bath is treated with chlorous acid or a water-soluble salt thereof at a pH of 5 to 8 to oxidize the ferrocyanide ions. Preferably the treatment is performed with an aqueous solution of sodium chlorite to which Fe, V, Ru or Os or a water-soluble salt thereof (e.g. ruthenium chloride, ammonium vanadate or osmium tetroxide) is added to speed oxidation. Oxidation may also be speeded by using more than the oxidation equivalent of chlorite ions when an autocatalytic reaction sets in. If iron salts are used, only those with low dissociation constants should be used to prevent formation of Prussian Blue.
