Abstract

580,173. Photographic processes. KODAK, Ltd., and STEVENS, G. W. W. March 15, 1943, No. 4222. [Class 98 (ii)] In the production of prints of various degrees of gradation on material comprising a mixture of a low-contrast silver chloride emulsion and a high-contrast silver bromide or bromiodide emulsion, the silver chloride may be removed after exposure so that only the bromide emulsion can be developed to give high contrast. Low contrast could be obtained by selective development of the chloride emulsion and medium contrast by simultaneous development of both emulsions. The chloride emulsion contains at least 90 per cent, preferably 95 or 98 per cent silver chloride, and the bromide emulsion at least 40 per cent, preferably 60 or 80 per cent, silver bromide, the remainder of the halide being iodide or chloride, or both. The silver chloride may be dissolved out with an aqueous solution of sodium sulphite or ammonia, the emulsions being mixed or the chloride emulsion coated over the bromide emulsion. If the solution is previously saturated with silver bromide, the emulsions may be coated in any order. Specification 516,514 is referred to.
