Abstract

537,561. Rubber soled footwear. ROCA, M., and GUIX, E. March 5. 1940, No. 4146. [Class 17 (ii)] [Also in Group V] Footwear having a rubber sole and an upper of other material has the out-turned edge of the upper, or an outwardly projecting strip secured to at least the toe portion of an inturned upper, embedded in the sole. Either the edge of the upper 3 is out-turned and, secured to the edge of the insole, or, if the upper is inturned, a strip 7 is secured to at least the toe portion. A suitable vulcanizing, mould comprises a base plate 11 having a recess shaped to the sole and heel, and a member 13, preferably divided mid - longitudinally, engaging the edge of the sole and heel and having secured thereto steel plates 14 engaging the upper edge surface of the sole and entering the crease. Handles 29 pivoted to links 28 pivoted to the half member further from the handles, close the half members together. The member 13 is engaged by struts 16 carrying cross pieces 19 engaging the last by screws. When assembled, the device is placed in a vulcanizing press of which the lower plate is heated, and the handles 29 are removed. The constriction allows ventilation of the upper to prevent this being damaged by heat. After vulcanization the handles are replaced and are used to lift the work from the press.
