Abstract

643,591. Platform soles. JOHNSON, J. W. Feb. 9, 1948, No. 3741. [Class 17(ii)] A sole unit consists of a dished outsole 1 in which a filler 3 is retained by a midsole 4, the joint between the members 1, 3 including a strip of material 5 which is arranged to cover the joint. The outsole 1 with the flap 5 attached has its edge turned up as at 2 and the filler 3 is inserted so that the midsole 4 can be seated on it with its surface flush with the edge of the outsole. The flap 5 is turned upon itself and down to form a roll or rim at the edge of the unit and a thong 7 is inserted through holes in the midsole to secure the parts together. A shoe may be completed by sticking an upper and insole unit within the cavity formed by the rim, a wedge heel, if desired, being inserted between the insole and the sole unit.
