537,152. Cleaning compositions. ROBERSON & CO., Ltd., C., and RUHEMANN, H. M. March 13, 1940, No. 4742. [Classes 91 and 95] A composition for cleaning painted, varnished or polished articles, or unpolished materials, e.g. leather or wood, comprises an aqueous emulsion or dispersion of white beeswax, carnauba wax, and mastic (or other soft natural or synthetic resin), produced in the presence of ammonia, or an ammonium compound of alkaline reaction, e.g. ammonium carbonate. Organic solvents for the waxes, such as turpentine and alcohol, may be present, and a petroleum fraction may be added as a thinner. In an example, solutions of carnauba wax and of bleached beeswax in turpentine are mixed together, an aqueous solution of ammonium carbonate is added, and the solution is heated with stirring at 40‹ C. until there is no longer any smell of ammonia ; a solution of mastic resin in turpentine and alcohol is then added and the resultant paste is thinned by addition of odourless petroleum and water to the consistency of a thick cream.
