Abstract
A composition suitable for a floor polish comprises an aqueous medium containing one disperse phase comprising a wax and a second disperse phase comprising a resinous film-forming material, the composition preferably containing between 0.5 and 3 parts by weight of wax for every part by weight of resinous film-forming material. Preferably the wax comprises between 15 per cent and 30 per cent by weight of the composition, the resinous film-forming material comprises 10-30 per cent by weight of the composition and the aqueous phase comprises water and one or more dispersing agents. The wax may be carnauba wax, beeswax, candelilla wax, ceresine or montan wax. The resinous film-forming material may be polyvinyl acetate, polystyrene, polymethylmethacrylate, or polymerized methyl acrylate, to any of which a plasticizer may be added, or may be a mixture of a vulcanized oil and an oil-soluble resin of the type described in Specification 571,832, a coumarone-indene resin, an oil-soluble phenol-formaldehyde resin, an alkyd resin, rosin or an ester gum. Minor proportions of disinfectants or colouring matters may be incorporated. The compositions may be prepared by adding an emulsion of the resinous material to an emulsion of the wax.ALSO:A floor polish comprises an aqueous medium containing one disperse phase comprising a wax and a second disperse phase comprising a resinous film-forming material, the composition preferably containing between 0.5 and 3 parts by weight of wax for every part by weight of resinous film-forming material. Preferably the wax comprises between 15 and 30 per cent by weight of the composition, the resinous film-forming material comprises 10-30 per cent by weight of the composition and the aqueous phase comprises water and one or more dispersing agents.
