536,583. Valve amplifying and generating circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., RUST, N. M., BRAILSFORD, J. D., and GOODENOUGH, E. F. Oct. 19, 1939, No. 28258. [Class 40 (v)] A negative impedance effect, independent of valve constants, for providing stable re-action so as to give sharp tuning in a band-pass amplifier, is produced in a multi-valve stage by including in the cathode leg of each valve a negative feedback circuit such that the product of the impedance of the feedback circuit and the mutual conductance of the associated valve is considerably greater than unity. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement in which positive feedback is obtained by the common cathode network ZIV, and this impedance producing positive feed-back may have a value large enough to cause the valve to oscillate. The intervalve coupling ZII comprises a parallel tuned circuit and similar circuits ZI, ZIII in the cathode leads provide negative feedback. Circuits of very low Q are preferably used and the grid-cathode capacity may be tuned out by coupling the coils in the grid and cathode circuits and the cathode-anode capacity may be tuned out by coupling inductances in the anode and cathode leads, compensation for grid-cathode capacity may also be obtained.
