Abstract

536,345. Electric safety lamps. FRIEMANN & WOLF GES. Jan. 17, 1940, No. 1033. Convention date, Feb. 6, 1939. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] An electric lamp for use where firedamp may be present comprises a tightly enclosed housing of two or more metal jackets separated electrically by layers of vulcanized rubber 2. The outer jacket 1 carries the cables and a screwed ring 7 for retaining a protective grid 8 and a flanged globe 10 while other fittings 11 for carrying current are mounted on the inner jacket 3. The grid 8 is mounted on a ring 9 which screws into the ring 7. The ring 9 is split and provided with end abutments 14, 15. A screw 16 with triangular head 17 screws through the block 15 and bears on block 14. The ring 9 can be opened out by using a box spanner, with a triangular hole, on the head 17.
