Abstract
536,285. Stockings &c. WILDT & CO., Ltd., and ALSTON, L. Jan. 25, 1940, No. 1516. [Class 141] [Also in Group VIII] Relates to the formation of the heel in a stocking or other hose. One or more pieces of fabric are initially shaped to produce a foot bottom or sole portion 2, side and back heel portions 1a and a central neck or like formation 8 partly or wholly curved outwardly to form the base of the heel. The edges 12 of the side portions of the heel are then joined to the edges 14 of the central neck, and the edges 13, 16 joined by seaming, sewing, over-stitching or the like. The remainder of the sole portion is then joined to the edge of the instep portion 3, which may have an extension 19 which may be first folded over, on its counterpart 4b to give a reinforced toe. The fabric may be produced on a circular or flat, knitting-machine and knitted tubular for the leg part and with flat portions, one to form the instep and the other the heel and foot bottom; The edges 14 may be parallel for some distance from the foot bottom and then converge on curved lines toward the back portion of the heel, and the edge 12 may be substantially straight.
