Abstract

667,776. Knitting. BRAUND, Ltd., G., and HALLAM, R. W. April 4, 1950 [March 23, 1949], No. 7848/49. Class 74 (ii). In fully fashioned hose or half hose made from flat blanks, the part covering the wearer's toes is knitted integral with the sole so that no seam occurs at the toe end. In one embodiment formed of plain fabric, the toe portion E and sole G are knitted in continuation of the instep D, the part G being linked to the heel tabs B, C along its edge e, d and to the parts D and E along the sides of the foot. In the case of a rib-knitted article, the toe and sole may be knitted directly on to the heel tabs, the toe portion being linked to the instep at the top of the foot, and the sole being seamed to the instep and sides of the toe at the sides of the foot. In both cases a separate machine is used to form the heel tabs and in the second case the sole and toe are formed on a further machine.
