Abstract
367,345. Surgical hosiery. DELLER, M., 17, Meadway, Golders Green, London. Nov. 7, 1930, No. 33525. [Class 81 (ii).] In rubberless surgical hosiery, the heel portion is so knitted as to be substantially rectangular in shape when the stocking is laid flat, and the stitches of the heel portion run in the same direction as those of the foot portion so that the heel portion will stretch in the direction of the diagonal of the rectangle to about the same extent as the remaining portion of the hose between the ankle and the foot. The heel hole may be omitted and when present is constituted by a, small opening at the rear of the heel. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the heel portion 1 is knitted separately and sewn to the leg portion 5 along the line 4. The foot portion 6 is a continuation of the knitting of the heel portion 1 and leg portion 5. The heel opening 3 may be closed by hand stitching. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the heel portion is of tubular knitting which is closed along the lint 7 but open along the line 4a where it is joined to the leg portion. Details for knitting the various modifications are given in the Specification.
