Abstract
535,756. Gas-blast switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd, June 12, 1940, No, 10207. Convention date, June 13, 1939. [Class 38 (v)] In a switch of the kind comprising an elongated arcing-passage defined by insulating material, such as artificial resin or hard fibre, which emits an extinguishing- gas under the arc-heat, the passage 17 is formed by registering arcuate slots cut in a series of discs 13 of the insulating material, the co-operating part of the movable contact 12 being formed as a hollow cylinder longitudinally slotted at 19 and embracing the longitudinal rib 18 thus formed in the passage 17. The discs 13 may be secured together by longitudinal fastening means (not shown), or housed in an insulating casing 14 to which is secured a conducting closure 15 against the segmental ring contact 11. Excess pressure due to rupturing heavy-current arcs is relieved at radial vents 20. The gas-cooling material may alternatively be in the form of a lining for the passage.
